Tina Turner’s Story: Don't Delay Treatment
Tina Turner’s life was full of power and resilience, but behind the spotlight she faced a silent threat—high blood pressure. Diagnosed in 1978, she dismissed it as “normal” and refused consistent medical treatment. Over time, untreated hypertension quietly damaged her kidneys, leading to a stroke, dialysis, and eventually a transplant.
In one of her final public reflections, Tina admitted her greatest regret was not recognizing that high blood pressure required early detection and treatment. Her story is a reminder that hypertension often shows no symptoms until irreversible damage occurs—yet with timely testing and care, it can be managed to protect the heart, kidneys, and brain. At NCI, we believe in “Detect to Protect,” empowering patients to identify risks early and take action before it’s too late.
